Australia far-right leader sparks outrage after calling Indigenous people ‘most primitive race on Earth’

On September 14, an Australian far-right politician named Pauline Hanson faced widespread backlash for her offensive remarks about Indigenous Australians. In a recent podcast, the One Nation party leader described Indigenous people as "the most primitive race on Earth" during a discussion about the teaching of Indigenous Australian history in schools.

She claimed that the Indigenous people had "never invented the wheel" and made other dismissive comments about their achievements. As a result, Australia's Indigenous affairs minister Malarndirri McCarthy called Hanson's comments "completely racist" and "outrageous," while fellow Indigenous Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price expressed disappointment, stating that most Australians would be "surprised" that such comments came from a political party leader.

Hanson's inflammatory remarks have not prevented her party from gaining popularity, with recent polls showing 27% of Australians would consider voting for One Nation - just one percentage point behind the ruling Labor Party.
