Anwar to meet Keralam CM and governor on bilateral cooperation

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to meet the Chief Minister of Kerala, V. D. Satheesan, and the Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, in Calicut today. The purpose of their bilateral meeting is to explore opportunities for cooperation and collaboration between Malaysia and Kerala. The discussions will likely focus on several key sectors, including trade and investment, tourism, healthcare, and education.

This will be Anwar's first visit to Kerala as Prime Minister, with the aim of strengthening relations and fostering strategic partnerships across various fields. In addition to the official meeting, Anwar is also expected to engage in business discussions with influential Indian industry figures and corporate leaders, which could lead to new avenues for cooperation and investment.

His itinerary today also includes a press conference with Malaysian media outlets. Anwar arrived in Calicut on Sunday, marking the second and final leg of his five-day working visit to India. Prior to this, he attended the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit in New Delhi. The Prime Minister arrived in New Delhi on Friday to participate in the summit hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The diplomatic ties between Malaysia and India have a long history, dating back to 1957 when Malaysia gained independence. India remains Malaysia's largest trading partner in South Asia, with bilateral trade reaching USD18.55 billion (RM79.33 billion) in 2025. Following his meeting with Kerala's leaders, Anwar is set to travel to the Maldives later today.
