Anambra govt still repaying loans taken under Peter Obi, Willie Obiano – Soludo

The Anambra State Government has revealed that it continues to repay loans initially taken by previous administrations, specifically those of former governors Peter Obi and Willie Obiano. This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Finance, Izuchukwu Okafor, during a discussion on the Ndi Anambra podcast. Despite the Soludo administration's decision not to take on any new loans from commercial banks since assuming power, the state remains committed to settling its existing financial obligations.

Okafor highlighted that the administration has primarily focused on repaying existing debts rather than amassing new ones. He emphasized that, contrary to new commercial borrowing, the state continues to make payments on loans contracted by prior administrations, asserting that funds due from the Federation Account Allocation Committee are still being used to service these inherited debts.

Okafor explicitly mentioned that some of these outstanding obligations trace back to the periods of the Obi and Obiano administrations.
