Amid weak monsoon, Karnataka CM Shivakumar warns of water, power shortage

Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar warned of a severe drought and impending shortages of drinking water and electricity across 100 taluks in the state. Groundwater levels have dropped significantly, and crops have been destroyed or left uncultivated. The government is considering purchasing electricity at high rates and sourcing additional power from neighboring states through the national grid system.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the government had allocated two days during a special legislative session to address farmers' concerns stemming from the drought.
