ADC crisis deepens in Adamawa as party gets 3 chairmen

The internal crisis within the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has escalated recently, following the inauguration of Dr. Markus Peter Danbaki as the state chairman. This development has led to the party being divided into three factions, as previously there were only two factions led by Barrister Sadiq Dasin and Alhaji Sa'idu Naira. The addition of Dr. Danbaki has brought the total number of ADC state chairmen in Adamawa to three.

Dr. Danbaki's inauguration took place in Yola, with the party's Legal Adviser, Barrister Ibrahim Ahmad, administering the oath of office and allegiance to him. Attendees at the ceremony included members of the State Working Committee, party supporters, family members, and key stakeholders. In his acceptance speech, Danbaki expressed his commitment to an open-door policy, emphasizing the need for all decisions to be made in consultation with all segments of the party for the benefit of the membership.

He also highlighted that internal democracy was the root cause of the party's internal crisis and pledged to prioritize unity and strengthen the well-being of the party and its members in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Danbaki's appointment followed an appointment letter dated August 20, 2026, addressed to him by the state Secretary of the party, Zubairu Ishaq Mohammed, officially appointing him as the State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State. Political observers in the region have expressed concerns that the ongoing leadership disputes could undermine the ADC's chances in the upcoming elections, as the issue needs to be resolved promptly.

Furthermore, the party's National Assistant Secretary, Hassan Muhammadu, popularly known as Babadan Dukku, has resigned from the ADC, citing the need for reflection and respect, without providing specific reasons for his departure.
