5 teen boys sent to Henry Gurney School for armed robbery

Five teenage boys from Kuching have been ordered by the Sarawak sessions court to be sent to the Henry Gurney School following their guilty plea to armed robbery. The court, presided over by Judge Noorhisham Jaafar, reviewed social and behavioral reports from the social welfare department before issuing the order. Two of the boys, aged 18, must remain at the school until they reach the age of 21, while the remaining three, aged between 14 and 15, will be held there for a period of five years.

The boys pleaded guilty to charges under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, in conjunction with Section 397, which addresses robbery involving the use of weapons. On June 1, around 4am, the gang attacked a 19-year-old shop attendant at a convenience store in Jalan Tun Jugah with machetes and wooden clubs. They threatened the worker and forced him to hand over RM1,000 in cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

Additionally, the attackers damaged the store's CCTV monitor and cash register. The boys were apprehended on July 31, with one accomplice still at large.
