Women can’t continue to fear going out in public: Lesufi

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has declared that women cannot continue to fear venturing out in public. He has urged the public to aid police in their investigation into the discovery of four women's bodies in Kempton Park over the span of two months. The most recent body was found on Saturday evening.

Lesufi emphasizes that the safety of women must be a top priority as authorities work towards identifying the victims and ensuring they receive justice. Police have reported that the women were found without clothing and with visible injuries, in close proximity to one another. Although the South African Police Service (SAPS) has not confirmed whether the deaths are connected by a serial killer, the similarities found among the cases have led to the formation of a specialized multidisciplinary task team.

Athlenda Mathe, a spokesperson for the SA Police Service, is cautioning women to take extra care when out in public. She advises women in and around Kempton Park to refrain from walking or running alone, especially in isolated areas. Mathe suggests that women should avoid secluded spaces, stay alert, and try to travel or exercise in groups when possible. The safety of women remains a top priority for SAPS, and the police are prepared to take immediate action if needed.
