Viral Cyberjaya barrier video: Police explain traffic policeman's actions

A traffic policeman captured on a viral video pushing open an automatic barrier at Tamarind Square in Cyberjaya did so following permission from the premises management, according to police. Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman, Sepang district police chief, explained that the incident happened around 2:30 pm on Saturday. Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division personnel were escorting Datuk Undang Luak Johol's official convoy, traveling from the Serenia Toll Plaza to Tamarind Square.

The automatic barrier leading to the upper-level access road failed to open, prompting the traffic policeman to contact the Tamarind management via the communication device provided at the barrier. He was instructed to manually push the barrier open, allowing the convoy to enter. The traffic policeman was also told to return the barrier to its original position once the entire convoy had passed, as no personnel were present at the barrier when the official convoy needed to enter.

Norhizam clarified that the barrier was returned to its original position after the convoy had passed. He emphasized that the traffic policeman's action, as seen in the viral video, was carried out based on the management's instructions to facilitate the official convoy's entry. Both the escorted party and Tamarind Square management reported no objections or complaints.

The convoy escort operation to and from the location proceeded smoothly, as confirmed by the police. A 39-second clip of the policeman pushing the barrier went viral on social media, eliciting mixed reactions from users, with some accusing the traffic police of overstepping their authority.
