Vikings QB Murray leaves his debut in the 1st quarter with a concussion after a hit to the head

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray suffered a concussion and was pulled from his debut game in the first quarter on Sunday after taking a hit to his head. Murray was placed in the concussion protocol for evaluation and announced as out for the remainder of the game against the Green Bay Packers. The incident occurred on a third-and-7 play from the Vikings' 33-yard line, when Packers outside linebacker Lukas Van Ness made contact with Murray's helmet.

Cornerback Javon Bullard then slammed his shoulder into the side of Murray's exposed head, resulting in an unnecessary roughness penalty and dislodging the quarterback's helmet. Murray's teammates immediately signaled for medical assistance as he lay on the field, his legs moving involuntarily. The eighth-year player, who previously played for the Arizona Cardinals for seven seasons, exited the field under his own power with athletic trainers attending to him.

Carson Wentz entered the game at quarterback and managed to score a field goal on that drive. Wentz was considered the primary backup to rookie J.J. McCarthy, who started 10 games last season for the Vikings before being inactive for Sunday's match.
