Ukraine drone strikes kill four; Russia attacks close to Poland border

In a recent escalation of the four-year-long conflict between Ukraine and Russia, four civilians were killed and over 20 others were wounded in drone strikes. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russia launched 863 drones at Ukraine in the last 24 hours, while the Russian Ministry of Defence stated that 389 Ukrainian drones were shot down, including those near Tatarstan, other Russian regions, and the Crimean Peninsula.

Two drone attacks were reported near Ukraine's border with NATO member Poland. The Dorohusk-Yahodyn crossing point was briefly halted after an attack on a truck approximately 0.8km from Poland, but has since resumed operations. Additionally, a Russian drone targeted a Warsaw-bound train near the Polish border in Ukraine, though no casualties were reported.

Russian forces targeted Ukrainian logistics and energy facilities, as well as infrastructure supporting military supplies from European countries in western Ukraine, as per the Russian Defence Ministry. In Odesa, at least nine individuals were injured in a Russian night-time drone attack, according to Serhiy Lysak, head of the city's military administration.

Two people were killed and 12 others injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on Nizhnekamsk, the capital of Russia's Tatarstan region. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov hinted at the possibility of negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States in October. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also expressed willingness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Miami, US, in December.

Although previous attempts at negotiations involving the US have failed, recent US negotiators have visited both Kiev and Moscow in a bid to advance the peace talks.
