Small Plane Carrying Five People Goes Missing in Colombia

A Cessna T206 with five occupants vanished from the skies on September 13 while en route from Condoto in Colombia's Choco department to Guaymaral Airport near Bogota. The Civil Aviation Authority initiated search-and-rescue protocols post the plane lost contact with mission control. The aircraft's last transmission was logged at 9:23 a.m. Subsequently, emergency beacon signals were picked up near the Tatamá Hill, situated amidst Choco, Risaralda, and Valle del Cauca departments.

The exact whereabouts of the aircraft and the safety of the five individuals on board remain unconfirmed. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the plane originated from Condoto, carrying one pilot and four passengers. The emergency locator beacon transmitted a signal approximately 53 miles from Pereira, which aided in narrowing down the search zone.

However, the specific cause of the emergency, be it an accident, emergency landing, or another event, is yet unclear. The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority has activated the Search and Rescue Service (SAR) in collaboration with the National Police, National Army, and rescue agencies. The Herculean task of this search is further complicated by the rugged, mountainous, and forested terrain of the region.
