Torres fires PSG to first win of Ligue 1 season

Paris Saint-Germain secured their first victory of the Ligue 1 season as champions Ferran Torres netted the winning goal in a 1-0 win against Brest on Sunday. The French champions, who had struggled in their opening three matches, now sit seventh in the table after their win. The result came just hours after the hosts paid tribute to their former coach Eric Roy, who died earlier this month.

PSG took the lead in the fifth minute when Ousmane Dembele set up Torres, who then scored the goal. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia nearly doubled the lead early in the second half, but Brest came close to equalising two minutes after the break. The hosts were denied a late equaliser, however, as the goal was ruled out for a push by Warren Zaire-Emery.

PSG's goalkeeper Matvey Safonov sealed the victory with a crucial save. Earlier in the day, Lille took the top spot in Ligue 1 after a 2-0 win over Troyes, with Ethan Mbappe scoring a late goal in stoppage time after his red card in midweek.
