‘Some regional countries requested’: Iran after meeting with Gulf states in Oman postponed

Iran postponed a meeting with Gulf states scheduled for Monday in Oman, according to Iranian state media. The decision to postpone the meeting was made at the request of some regional countries, reported Fars news agency, citing an Iranian foreign ministry official. However, the official did not specify which countries made the request.

Earlier, Oman's foreign minister, Badr Albusaidi, announced the postponement of the meeting set for Salalah, stating that the regional meeting aimed to foster dialogue for regional stability and cooperation. The meeting was to discuss various issues, including potential agreements on the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route.

Iran had been negotiating with Oman for months regarding an arrangement for shipping through the strait, which is controlled by Oman. The talks were supported by other Gulf Arab states before the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, leading to a war and a sharp increase in crude oil prices.
