Solomon Agbasi bids farewell to Hearts of Oak ahead of Stellenbosch move

Goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi has bid farewell to Hearts of Oak as he prepares to join South African club Stellenbosch FC. The 25-year-old is set to leave the Ghanaian side after the two parties could not come to a new contract agreement during the transfer window, despite the club's wish to retain him. While several clubs, including Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC, showed interest in Agbasi, he chose to pursue a career abroad after receiving offers from South Africa.

In an emotional farewell message shared on social media, Agbasi expressed gratitude towards the club, teammates, and supporters who made his time in Accra special. "My time at the club has come to an end, and I would like to thank everyone involved," he wrote. "Thank you to all my teammates, managers and staff along the way, and of course thank you to all the lovely fans.

It's been nothing but love from the start." Agbasi emphasized that he cherished every moment at Hearts of Oak and would miss playing in the Phobia colors.

During his tenure, Agbasi made 12 appearances for the Phobians, conceding only five goals and maintaining nine clean sheets. His exceptional performances led to his first call-up to the Black Stars in February 2026, where he was included in Ghana's wider squad for the March friendlies against Austria, Germany, and Mexico. Although he was part of the team's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, coach Carlos Queiroz did not select him in the final 26-man World Cup squad.

Agbasi later made his senior international debut against Mexico in 2026 and has since earned one Black Stars cap.
