Sifuna seeks Nairobi backing for opposition unity

Rigathi Gachagua, the former Deputy President, commended the growth of opposition rallies across Kenya, stating that political activities in various regions are "boiling nicely" as leaders prepare for the 2027 General Election. At an interdenominational fellowship in Portland City, Oregon, USA, on Monday, September 14, 2026, Gachagua noted the large crowds seen during opposition activities in Nairobi, Nyeri, Murang'a, Meru, and Tana River.

He highlighted the Linda Mwananchi movement's tour in Nairobi, where supporters moved from All Saints Cathedral through parts of the city before converging at Jacaranda Grounds for a major rally. Gachagua expressed his satisfaction, claiming that Nairobi was already "locked" with 2.7 million voters, and that leaders Gachagua supported, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna, and Babu Owino, have a strong presence in the city.

The opposition leaders' mobilisation across the country, as noted by Gachagua, includes Sifuna and his team in Nairobi, DCP brigade led by John Methu in Nyeri and Murang'a, and thousands of Kenyans chanting "Wantam" in Mathioya. Gachagua urged opposition leaders to focus on consolidating their support base before deciding on a candidate for the 2027 election.

He also pointed out that President William Ruto's campaign would be challenging due to his absence in several parts of the country, with opposition leaders present in Nairobi, Nyeri, Murang'a, Meru, Tana River, Mombasa, Kisii, and no accessible routes for Ruto to campaign. Gachagua expressed his pleasure with the developments and emphasized that opposition leaders must build "serious teams across the country" to challenge Ruto ahead of the 2027 polls.
