Ryan Blaney suffers brake failure in crushing blow to title hunt

On the 155th lap of the 240-lap NASCAR Cup race at WWT Raceway, Ryan Blaney's race came to a crushing end due to a catastrophic brake failure. The Team Penske driver, who was leading the championship chase, crashed into the outside wall and dropped out of the race. Blaney had been running sixth and was only a few points away from the championship lead before the unfortunate incident.

This marked the first time any of the 16 Chase drivers had a DNF (Did Not Finish) during the weekend of racing at Gateway. Zane Smith, a fellow Ford driver, also suffered a brake failure earlier in the race, resulting in a heavy crash in Turn 1. After being released from the infield care center, Blaney revealed there was no warning before the failure.

He stated that the brakes had stabilized for a brief period before they abruptly failed on the front stretch. Blaney expressed his disappointment, acknowledging that they felt good about the car's performance up until the failure. Despite his setback, Blaney remained optimistic, stating that he would focus on the next week's race.

When asked about NASCAR implementing measures to prevent brake failures, Blaney disagreed, attributing the issue to the teams and suggesting that it's best left to them to identify and address any problems.
