Police shoot at Myvi tyre after couple tries to flee

Early yesterday, a Perodua Myvi was targeted in Kulai district, with police shooting at its tyre following an altercation with a couple. The incident occurred around 1:20am during a crime prevention patrol in Bandar Putra. Police on patrol observed a suspicious black Myvi and attempted to conduct a check on the vehicle. However, upon seeing the police, the 23-year-old man and woman in the car became aggressive and tried to flee.

They rammed a patrol motorcycle and a Mazda CX-5 before attempting to hit a policeman. In self-defence, the officer fired one shot at the Myvi's tyre, but the suspects managed to escape. Despite the escape, forensic officers discovered bullet fragments and a cartridge casing at the scene. Within 24 hours, both suspects were apprehended separately in Bandar Putra and Kluang.

They were detained between 11:30am and 8:30pm. Police also seized a remote control and the black Myvi believed to be involved in the incident. Preliminary urine tests on the suspects were negative for drugs, and no prior criminal records were found. The motive behind the incident is still under investigation, with the case being examined under Sections 307, 332, and 186 of the Penal Code. The suspects were brought to the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court for a remand application.
