Peter Obi reacts to death of ex-PDP chairman, Bamanga Tukur

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, has expressed his condolences upon learning of the passing of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. Tukur, a former Governor of Gongola State and esteemed business figure, succumbed to death on September 12, 2026, at the age of 90. The news of his demise was shared through a statement issued by his family, with his son Awwal D. Tukur signing off.

In his reaction to the unfortunate event, Peter Obi described Tukur as a distinguished statesman who dedicated decades of his life to serving Nigeria. Obi acknowledged the vast contributions made by the deceased both in the public sector and through his influential role in African commerce. He stated, "His decades of service to our nation, both in the public sector and through his extensive contributions to African commerce, have left an enduring legacy."

Expressing his deepest sympathies to the Tukur family, the government, and the people of Adamawa State, Peter Obi prayed for the departed soul, saying, "May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and give his loved ones the strength to bear this great loss."
