Pakistan offers Rs100-a-litre petrol relief for bikes, small cars: Who qualifies?

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently announced a fuel relief scheme offering a Rs100-per-litre discount to millions of motorcycle, rickshaw, and small-car users as global oil prices surge. The targeted subsidy covers motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis, and cars with engines up to 800cc, with eligible users receiving a monthly quota of up to 20 litres for motorcycles and rickshaws, and up to 30 litres for small cars.

The maximum monthly savings for eligible motorcycles and rickshaws would amount to Rs2,000, while qualifying small cars could save up to Rs3,000 per month. The program will begin in Islamabad on September 15 and across the rest of Pakistan on September 17. Registration for the program opened on Sunday, with the government encouraging provincial governments to provide necessary information for implementation.
