Min Buri market inspection uncovers illegal foreign workers

A joint operation by labour and immigration officials at Min Buri's Rong Kip Moo Market in Bangkok has led to the arrest of eight foreign nationals accused of engaging in illegal work and immigration violations. The inspection occurred on September 8 at 7pm, during which Labour Minister Chulapun Amornvivat sent Surachart Thienthong and Pipatchai Paiboon to assess labour conditions and gather insights on enforcement challenges.

Collaborating with the Department of Employment's Anti-Illegal Labour Operation Centre and the Immigration Bureau, the officials examined the work status and immigration records of the foreign workers at the market. The objective was to curb unlicensed employment, work in occupations reserved for Thai nationals, and unauthorized entry or residence in Thailand. As a result of the checks, eight violations were uncovered.

Among the arrested were a Cambodian woman and a Lao woman found working without proper permits, in violation of the Royal Decree on the Management of Foreign Workers’ Employment B.E. 2560 (2017) and its amendments. Additionally, four Cambodian nationals—comprising one man and three women—were discovered to have entered and remained in the kingdom without authorization. Furthermore, two Cambodian women were found to have overstayed their permitted time in the country.

All eight individuals were apprehended and handed over to the authorities at Min Buri Police Station for legal proceedings. The visit also served as an opportunity to educate employers, business operators, and foreign workers about the pertinent laws and associated penalties, with the collected information intended to guide future initiatives aimed at enhancing the administration of migrant labor.
