Man Arrested Over Girlfriend’s Death In Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended Manaseh Bitrus Jatau in connection with the death of his 35-year-old girlfriend, Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, in Kaduna's Romi area. According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, Jeremiah's body was discovered along Mai Angwa Street on September 5, 2026, with cotton wool stuffed in her nostrils.

Police detectives from the Romi Outstation took Jeremiah to St. Gerald Hospital, where a doctor confirmed her death. Her remains were then sent to the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Jatau was the last person to call Jeremiah, instructing her to meet him at Ebano Joint, Romi. The suspect was later found at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in Maraban Jos. During questioning, Jatau admitted to a fight with Jeremiah over a phone call from another woman, which allegedly led to her demise. He confessed to burying her body in an open field near his residence in an attempt to cover up the incident.

The police suspect remains in custody while the investigation proceeds, and he will be charged to court following its conclusion. Kaduna's Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, denounced violence and encouraged peaceful dispute resolution, promising the public that the command is committed to securing justice for victims and apprehending the perpetrators.
