Malaysia’s Brics partnership broadens trade ties while keeping ‘middle path’, says J-KOM

Malaysia's involvement as a Brics partner has expanded trade opportunities with member nations, which encompass more than half of the world's population and economic power. J-KOM director-general Mohd Hisyamuddin Ghazali stated that joining Brics enables Malaysia to adopt a balanced approach, avoiding reliance on any dominant global power.

"With Brics, we can strike a balance in our trade relations with various countries," he emphasized. Acknowledging that Brics member citizens represent more than half of the global population and possess significant purchasing power, Hisyamuddin argued that Malaysia would be missing out on valuable trade if it did not join. The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is set to address the 18th Brics Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, where he will highlight the need for enhanced cooperation among Brics members and partners to tackle development challenges, boost economic prospects, and ensure that technological advancements and innovation benefits are distributed more equitably.

When addressing misinformation on social media regarding Anwar's absence from the group photo, Hisyamuddin clarified that Malaysia's status as a Brics partner ensures its active participation in the trade sector, facilitating direct connections with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Additionally, J-KOM, the Information Department (JAPEN), and National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) are collaborating to bolster the delivery of government information and policies to local communities, ensuring clearer understanding and optimal response to government initiatives and policies.
