Pengarah SPRM Kedah, Nazli Rasyid Sulong, confirmed the arrest of an individual related to the issue of delayed delivery of additional steel (Baja 3) to workers in Kedah. The arrest lasted for four days until September 16, issued by Judge Eliana Ismail after a request from SPRM in Alor Setar Magistrate Court. The suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested around 2:30 pm yesterday upon his appearance at Kedah SPRM office.

Nazli Rasyid Sulong, the Kedah SPRM officer, confirmed the arrest and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the SPRM Act 2009. Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim instructed SPRM to investigate the issue of delayed steel delivery to workers in Kedah, emphasizing the need to identify the root cause, including examining the company entrusted with managing such supplies.

This follows reports that approximately 40,000 out of 60,000 workers at the Mada (Muda Agricultural Advancement Institute) area are concerned about not receiving the additional steel yet. The steel supply is managed by a company appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAS) to meet the needs of the 100,000-hectare Mada area.

In response, SPRM stated that they opened an investigation after receiving a complaint from the Malaysian Association of Builders (Pesawah) on August 26. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAS) Minister Mohamad Sabu had also previously stated that the government has decided to end the services of a company involved in the delayed steel delivery.
