Pengarah SPRM Kedah, Nazli Rasyid Sulong, confirmed the arrest of a suspected male, aged in his thirties, who was detained for four days until September 16. The arrest was ordered by Majistret Eliana Ismail after the SPRM requested a hearing at the Alor Setar Magistrate Court in the early hours of the day. Nazli Rasyid Sulong stated that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the SPRM Act 2009.

Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim directed SPRM to investigate the issue of delayed delivery of steel to workers in Kedah, emphasizing the need to identify the root cause, including investigating the company entrusted with managing the relevant supply. This comes after media reported that around 40,000 out of 60,000 workers in the Lembaga Kemajuan Pertanian Muda (Mada) region are feared to suffer due to delayed delivery of steel.

The steel supply is managed by a company appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to fulfill the needs of the 100,000-hectare Mada region. SPRM stated that its office has launched an inquiry following a complaint from the Malaysian Association of Steel Workers (Pesawah) on August 26. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Mohamad Sabu had previously said that the government has decided to terminate the services of a company responsible for the delayed steel supply.
