Lee congratulates Korean director on Venice film festival award

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung praised Korean director Lee Chang-dong on Sunday for winning the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival. In a message posted on his X account, President Lee expressed his sincere congratulations to the director, as well as the entire cast and crew. He wrote, "I once again sincerely congratulate the director, all the actors and staff members. I will cheer for the bright journey of Korean cinema down the road."

The award was presented to Lee Chang-dong at the 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival, which took place in Italy on Saturday. His film, "Possible Love," was only the second Korean film to ever win a prize at the prestigious event, following the Golden Lion awarded to Kim Ki-duk's "Pieta" in 2012. President Lee expressed his hope that this recognition would lead to even more diverse Korean films reaching audiences around the world.

President Lee had the opportunity to meet with Lee Chang-dong and the film's cast during the Lumiere Summit on the future of cinema. This summit was co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and took place in Saint-Paul-de-Vence just one week prior to the film festival.
