Iran requested new Russian Geran drones for attacks on Israeli, American targets amid war - report

Tehran has reportedly requested Russia supply the regime with its new generation of Geran drones during the Israeli-US conflict, according to the Financial Times. This request comes after significant upgrades to Russia's Geran family of drones. The jet-powered Geran-4 and Geran-5, successors to propeller-powered models, have recently been deployed in the Ukraine-Russia war, posing a more formidable threat due to their ability to avoid defenses effectively.

Based on Moscow-produced Iranian Shahed designs, the Geran drones have evolved from the first-generation Geran, which carries a 20-kilogram warhead and reaches a top speed of 185 kph, to the Geran-5, equipped with a 90-kilogram warhead and capable of reaching 600 kph. Featuring advanced capabilities such as thermal vision, AI-powered targeting, Russian anti-jamming antennas, and Chinese mesh radio network modems, the Geran-5 can potentially be deployed by Russian Sukhoi-25 fighter jets, a gift from Tehran to Russia in 2025.
