Fernández, Luighi score goals, Freese has 5 saves for NYCFC in 2-0 win over RSL

Sandy, Utah (AP) — In a 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake, New York City FC secured a break from their eight-game winless streak. Nicolás Fernández and Luighi Hanri Sousa Santos both found the back of the net. Matt Freese, the goalkeeper for NYCFC, made a remarkable 5 saves throughout the match. Agustín Ojeda added two assists for the win, giving NYCFC an overall record of 8-9-8 in the Eastern Conference standings.

Freese, a member of the U.S. men’s national team, recorded his fifth shutout of the season. Fernández's goal came in the 41st minute, followed by Luighi's second goal in the 62nd minute. Rafael Cabral made one save for Real Salt Lake, who have remained winless in 11 consecutive games since a 2-1 home win over Colorado on May 16.
