Dignitaries Storm Yola as Bamanga Tukur, Former PDP Chairman, Is Laid to Rest

Yola witnessed a solemn event on Sunday as the remains of revered elder statesman and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, were laid to rest following Islamic rites. The burial ceremony, officiated by Alhaji Ahmadu Bobboi, Chief Imam of Modibbo Adama Central Mosque, commenced at 10:50 am and concluded with the interment of Tukur's remains at the family house in Fadde-Sanda, along Abuja Road, Yola, at 11:30 am.

Tukur, who had passed away two days prior at the age of 90 due to a brief illness, had a storied career spanning several decades in business and politics. He leaves behind a legacy marked by a family consisting of two wives and 18 children, with Awwal Tukur, now the Secretary to the State Government of Adamawa State, among his offspring.

The funeral prayers, which drew a substantial crowd of dignitaries, were attended by a who's who of Nigeria's political and business elite. Among the notable figures present were Aliko Dangote, the renowned business magnate; Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri; Senator Iya Abbas, representing the Adamawa Central Senatorial District; and former Governor Jibrilla Bindow.

Additionally, traditional rulers from within and outside Adamawa, alongside other political and community leaders, joined the family and well-wishers in paying their respects.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima had previously hailed Tukur as a "global star," while northern governors mourned his passing, emphasizing the immense loss he represented to their region. The PDP, too, paid tribute to Tukur, describing him as a "committed party man" whose leadership significantly shaped the party and Nigeria's political landscape. With his burial, Adamawa bid farewell to one of its most esteemed sons, an elder statesman respected for his contributions to business, governance, and national politics.
