Datti Baba-Ahmed: Tinubu Built Structure for 16 Years, Only God Can Stop Him in 2027

Chuks Okocha reported from Abuja that Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party's vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, made a bold claim during a television interview. He stated that only God can stop President Bola Tinubu from winning the 2027 presidential election. Baba-Ahmed, who previously served as Peter Obi's running mate in the same election, acknowledged the president's extensive political background, noting that Tinubu had spent about 16 years constructing his political structure.

Despite having some policy disagreements, Baba-Ahmed recognized Tinubu's capacity for building alliances and his success in organizing for 16 years. The Labour Party candidate emphasized Tinubu's remarkable political achievement, particularly his victory in the 2023 presidential election, which demonstrated his ability to pursue unconventional strategies.

Baba-Ahmed contrasted Tinubu's organisation with that of Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that Atiku might face resistance in forming a united front with opposition parties due to internal conflicts. He also stated that Tinubu currently wields overwhelming influence over Nigeria’s political landscape, often selecting opposition party candidates and installing leadership within those parties.

Baba-Ahmed concluded by asserting that if Tinubu declares himself the President in 2027, only God Almighty can prevent it. When asked if this assessment was a complement or a criticism, Baba-Ahmed maintained that it was simply a factual statement, asserting that Nigeria now belongs to Tinubu.
