Clients would disappear after I finished their artworks – Aewura Arts recounts challenges

Ghanaian artist Aewura Adjoa, also known as Aewura Arts, discussed the challenges she encountered as she ventured into the world of art in an interview on Joy Learning TV and Joy News. One of her most significant hurdles was dealing with clients who would fail to pay for or return completed artworks. She initially did not require clients to make deposits before starting a piece, which led to numerous instances of clients disappearing after payment.

Aewura Adjoa expressed her frustration with this situation, as she would invest time, money, and effort into perfecting and framing the artwork, only to have the client disappear without a trace. She stressed that the lack of payment impacted her ability to sustain her creative practice. Another challenge she faced during her early career was sourcing quality art supplies.

The locally available materials were often basic and did not provide the results she desired, leading her to explore international platforms for better supplies. She noted that these higher-quality materials could be obtained through platforms like Amazon, but the local offerings were lacking.

In light of her experiences, Aewura Arts provided advice to aspiring artists to avoid similar issues. She recommended that artists request a partial payment upfront from clients before commencing any work, thus preventing a total loss if a client fails to return for the finished piece. Additionally, she encouraged young artists to remain resilient and adaptable in the face of challenges, emphasizing the importance of learning, growth, and finding sustainable ways to make their artistic endeavors thrive.
