Christians can fund National Cathedral construction with GH¢1,000 each – Mahama

President John Mahama expressed support for Christians in Ghana to individually contribute GH¢1,000 towards the construction of a National Cathedral, stating that this collective effort would provide the necessary financial resources. He emphasized that public funds should not be utilized for this purpose. The President, who is a Christian, highlighted concerns regarding the intended location of the cathedral, noting that the site is already close to several major public institutions, which he believed would create congestion and issues during events.

Additionally, Mahama expressed dissatisfaction with the demolition of several properties, including judges' residences and the Malian Ambassador's home, to clear the area for the cathedral's construction. Despite these concerns, he affirmed his personal support for the project, acknowledging that he has no opposition to a National Cathedral being built.

Furthermore, he disclosed that a forensic audit of the project's finances had been completed and was awaiting review by the Christian Council of Ghana, who would assess whether any corrective actions are needed based on the expenditure of the project's funds.
