Canada's quest for closer EU relations intensifies following a trade war with the United States that has escalated tensions between the two nations. The conflict has resulted in tariffs on billions of dollars worth of cross-border commerce. Canada and the EU are exploring measures to facilitate the smoother movement of goods, services, and workers involved in critical sectors such as energy, artificial intelligence, defense, and critical minerals across the EU's borders, effectively expanding the bloc's territory, according to the Journal.

Furthermore, Canada and the EU are deliberating on joint projects such as laying underwater cables, constructing data centers, and developing new satellite networks to enable the efficient shipping of Canadian energy to EU markets.
