Capsized Indonesian ferry kills six people with 130 missing

Indonesian authorities are actively searching for 130 people missing after a ferry capsized in the Java Sea. The accident occurred early Sunday when the KM Virgo Transport 8, carrying 243 individuals, lost contact due to adverse weather conditions. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the vessel capsized but did not sink, based on information from a rescue helicopter.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation by Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee. As of now, 107 people have been rescued from the 243 passengers and 30 crew members on board. Rescue efforts, involving rescue vessels, naval ships, a helicopter, and a military aircraft, have been expanded to cover a larger area around the ferry's last known position, approximately 80 nautical miles from Banjarmasin on the island of Borneo.
