Architects’ institute inducts 40 new members, urges compliance with building standards

The Architects, Artisans and Construction Managers Institute of Nigeria (AICON) recently inducted over 40 new members and artisans in Abuja. The ceremony aimed to reinforce professionalism, competence, and accountability within the building and construction industry. AICON President Umar Garba highlighted the significance of this milestone, urging inductees to uphold integrity and excellence in their respective fields.

He emphasized that membership comes with the responsibility to maintain high standards and ensure safety and quality in every project. The association pledged to promote capacity building and collaboration among practitioners, stressing the importance of adhering to construction standards for safe, durable, and sustainable buildings.

Dignitaries attending the ceremony, including the Minister of Works and Housing, Chima Wogu-Ogbonna, and the Senator representing Kebbi Central Senatorial District, Adamu Aliero, congratulated the new members and urged them to contribute to national development. Industry stakeholders emphasized the need to prioritize quality and safety over short-term financial gains, warning of serious consequences for poor workmanship and disregard for standards.

AICON called for collaboration among various professionals to tackle challenges in Nigeria's built environment, particularly in light of recurring concerns over building failures and unsafe construction practices. The event also recognized individuals for their contributions to AICON and the wider construction industry, presenting them with certificates to formalize their admission into the association.
