Architects’ institute inducts 40 new members, urges compliance with building standards

The Architects, Artisans and Construction Managers Institute of Nigeria recently inducted over 40 new members and artisans in Abuja. The ceremony emphasized the importance of upholding professional ethics and strict adherence to approved construction standards. AICON President Umar Garba highlighted that the induction marked a significant milestone for the new members, providing them with a chance to contribute to the growth of Nigeria's construction industry.

He urged the inductees to view their membership as a responsibility to maintain integrity, competence, and excellence in their respective fields. The AICON president also called for the adoption of modern construction methods, improvement of technical skills, and prioritization of safety and quality in every project. The ceremony involved representatives of the Minister of Works and Housing, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, and a Senator representing Kebbi Central Senatorial District.

All stressed the importance of maintaining high standards in the construction industry, particularly in an environment where issues of building quality, structural integrity, and construction-site safety have garnered public concern. Industry stakeholders consistently identify poor workmanship, substandard materials, inadequate supervision, and non-compliance with building regulations as factors that can compromise structural safety.

The event also recognized individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of AICON and the wider construction industry.
