Amanah urges Anwar to reject calls for early general election

Johor Baru: Amanah has urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to reject demands for an early general election, urging the unity government to continue its full term. Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa emphasized that the government still had over a year to address critical issues such as the economy and the wellbeing of the people.

Mujahid stated that the government was not prepared to sacrifice all that it had achieved merely due to pressure from Umno to hold an early election. The unity government was established in 2022 based on mutual agreements between all parties, and Anwar had no intention of removing any party leaders, but assured that no one would prevent a party from exiting the government voluntarily.

Amanah remains prepared for the upcoming general election, having completed all necessary preparations and programs. However, the group believes that completing the full term is more important than holding an early election. Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi challenged those advocating for Umno's removal from the unity government to dissolve Parliament, asserting that any change of government should be decided by the voters in a fresh election.
