Abike Dabiri-Erewa: The Quiet Force Behind Tinubu’s Diaspora Strategy

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, renowned for her results-driven political approach, has assumed a critical role in the APC Presidential Campaign Council's Diaspora Strategy. Prior to her current appointment, Dabiri-Erewa served as the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) for many years. Her extensive experience in this sector has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the complex relationship between government, diplomacy, and the diaspora community.

Under her leadership, NiDCOM achieved remarkable results. They managed the repatriation and rescue of 244 trafficked Nigerians from neighboring West African nations within weeks. Additionally, they coordinated the return of stranded citizens from Ghana and Mali, including the case of actress Jumoke George’s daughter. Dabiri-Erewa has also been instrumental in promoting the use of diaspora resources for domestic development, leading the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit.

This platform aims to direct diaspora capital into key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure.

At the 2025 National Diaspora Day Celebrations, Dabiri-Erewa partnered with the Ministry of Interior to establish clearer pathways for the reintegration of returning capital and talent. Her commission's regulatory desk has also resolved over 1,000 petitions from Nigerians abroad, addressing issues such as real estate fraud, investment scams, and unfair treatment.

Furthermore, she has championed "Brain Gain" initiatives aimed at enticing skilled Nigerian professionals to return to sectors like education, healthcare, and sports.
