3 polis ditahan disyaki peras ugut RM13,000

Policemen in George Town were detained yesterday to assist with an investigation related to allegations of perjury involving three men accused of stealing RM13,000. The head of the Polis Pulau Pinang, Dennis Lim Kwang Keng, stated that all male officers aged between 30 and 48 were detained for four days until September 16 to help with the ongoing probe. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident and are interrogating the suspects under Section 384 of the Penal Code, which deals with coercion.

The suspects are believed to have gone to Jalan Ladang Hong Seng in Pulau Tikus to find a relative who was allegedly detained by the police. However, they were later detained by three police officers around 2:30 am. The victims claim they were beaten and threatened with their hands being broken and being extorted for money if they did not hand over the cash. The victims, fearing for their safety, were forced to withdraw money from an ATM at Jalan Burma before handing over RM13,000 to one of the suspects to free themselves.
