Zahid reveals past attempts to pit him against Tok Mat

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has revealed that there had been past attempts to position him against his deputy, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, also known as Tok Mat. During his concluding remarks at the 2026 Umno General Assembly, Zahid addressed Mohamad, cautioning him about previous efforts to pit them against each other.

He emphasized that sustenance never arrives at the wrong address, directed at Mohamad. Zahid stated that those who once sought to create discord between the two Umno leaders had since repented. He humorously noted that Dewan Merdeka, the venue for the assembly, had been a witness to Umno's triumphs, setbacks, divisions, and reunions, as well as moments of sorrow and renewal.

However, Zahid firmly stated that Dewan Merdeka is not a place for lamenting their fate. Instead, the party must remain confident in its identity, purpose, and timing as it faces future challenges. Zahid reiterated that they know who they are, their desired direction, and the optimal time to begin their next steps, all of which occurred in Dewan Merdeka.
