(Yonhap Interview) Argentine cybersecurity chief anticipates cooperation with S. Korea amid complex, delocalized threats

Seoul, September 13 (Yonhap) -- Argentina's cybersecurity chief anticipates collaboration with South Korea as digital threats become more complex and decentralized due to the rise of generative AI, says Hector Casas, the head of Argentina's federal cybersecurity and information agency. Casas, speaking in a written interview ahead of his visit to Seoul for the Cyber Summit Korea (CSK) 2026 next week, emphasized the need for joint efforts in detecting, analyzing, and combating cyber threats.

South Korea's President Lee Jae Myung recently highlighted Latin America as a crucial partner in the AI era, and the two countries agreed to enhance cooperation in critical minerals. Casas believes that such collaboration could extend to the cybersecurity domain, stressing the importance of detecting and blocking intrusions through international cooperation.

Argentina recently restructured its cybersecurity and cyberintelligence functions, creating an independent agency called the National Cybersecurity Center (CNC) to manage digital threats. The CNC recently mandated all public institutions and critical national infrastructure to update their systems in accordance with a new security framework.
