The president, speaking to reporters before heading to his golf course in Ireland, suggested that negotiations between Iran and the U.S. aimed to end a conflict that began in February. Trump stated that Canada is "very badly" interested in making a deal, similar to Iran's stance.

He also expressed hope that Canada appreciates being in the same sentence as Iran. Canada's Trade Minister, Dominic LeBlanc, mentioned that no formal trade talks were scheduled, although there were ongoing conversations between the two countries. Iran continues to target ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which has become a significant bargaining chip for Tehran in the ongoing war.

The U.S. has implemented new measures to intensify economic pressure on Iran following the collapse of negotiations. Trump has frequently asserted that Iran desires a deal, but Iran's hardline leadership has shown a willingness to continue the conflict. During his visit to Ireland, Trump also met with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin and discussed the possibility of Ireland unifying with Northern Ireland. A large protest occurred in Dublin, but Trump had already left the city by the time it started.
