WestBridge-Backed Way2News Restrained From Using AppsForBharat’s Confidential Data

A Bengaluru commercial court has issued a temporary injunction on September 10, restraining hyperlocal news startup Way2News from accessing confidential information and intellectual property belonging to AppsForBharat. The order was passed in an ad-interim ex parte injunction, without granting either Way2News or its former employee Shivam Kumar Singh the opportunity to present their case.

AppsForBharat had filed a commercial suit alleging that Singh, who worked as a senior operations associate at AppsForBharat, used its Google Drive containing videos, marketing material, operational data, and financial information after resigning. AppsForBharat claims Singh subsequently joined Way2News and used this confidential data, as well as solicited its employees and customers.

AppsForBharat is seeking ₹1 crore in compensation, return of its proprietary material, permanent injunctions against misuse, and an account of revenue generated through unauthorised use. Way2News, founded in 2015, is a hyperlocal news platform that expanded into spiritual tech with its Veda Mandir app.
