[UPDATED] Tok Mat proposes Terengganu polls to test political partners' sincerity

Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has proposed testing the sincerity of prospective political partners by holding an election in the state of Terengganu. He believes this will reveal whether cooperation for Malay-Muslim unity is a genuine desire to share power or merely benefits one side. This suggestion followed Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's hint at possible cooperation with the opposition party, Pas.

The proposed test aims to gauge the willingness of the parties to share seats fairly, with Mohamad emphasizing that Umno should not be the only party seeking such an understanding. He expressed concerns that remaining in the government until the end of its term might be detrimental to the party's survival, fearing attempts to weaken and bury Umno. Mohamad left the matter to Zahid's decision, urging him to negotiate the best possible terms.
