The controversy surfaced as Anya faced criticism due to multiple posts on X. A screenshot circulated alleging that one post read: "Die first, white man, then ask yourself why I'm dancing." However, the authenticity of this post was unverified. After the backlash, Anya's X account was inaccessible, but it was unclear if she deactivated it or if it was deactivated for another reason.

Carnegie Mellon University stated that Anya is on voluntary professional leave and will not be teaching on their campus during the current academic year. They emphasized that the posts cannot be interpreted as the university's endorsement, as they contradict their community standards and values. No disciplinary action has been announced against Anya in connection with the posts.
