UAE rescuers find 10 more missing after Nepal floods

The UAE's Search and Rescue Team, collaborating with Nepali authorities, has discovered ten additional individuals missing following the catastrophic flash floods that struck Nepal in mid-August. Since their arrival on September 4, the team's field operations have led to the recovery of a total of eighteen people. The disaster, triggered by mudslides and floods, uprooted entire villages in Nepal and the Chinese province of Tibet.

The focus of the rescue mission has been on the Rasuwa region and surrounding areas near the Trishuli River. Equipped with cutting-edge technology like drones, advanced aerial surveys, and three-dimensional mapping, the UAE team has been instrumental in locating missing persons.

In addition to rescue efforts, the UAE has provided substantial aid to Nepal. The most recent shipment, the fifth from the Emirates, contained rescue boats, drones, power generators, and essential logistical equipment. This aid, the fifth in a series, will be handed over to Nepali rescue teams to bolster their operations. According to Hammoud Al Afari, director of UAE Relief Operations, the UAE teams are in full cooperation with Nepalese authorities, ensuring that search and rescue efforts are aligned with prioritized field priorities and available information.

The UAE's approach to disaster response, characterized by swift action and provision of humanitarian relief and technical assistance, has been consistent. The team comprises experts from the UAE Joint Operations Command, Dubai Police's Search and Rescue, and the UAE Aid Agency, along with professionals specialized in disaster relief, medical evacuation, and first aid.

At present, the death toll from the floods stands at 1,385, with Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority predicting the number will increase. Meanwhile, 5,130 individuals remain missing, and 13,600 have been rescued so far.
