UAE rescuers find 10 more missing after Nepal flood

Rescue workers from the United Arab Emirates have discovered an additional 10 individuals among the missing following a devastating flash flood in Nepal that occurred last month. Collaborating with Nepali authorities, the UAE Search and Rescue Team has now recovered a total of 18 people since their arrival in the country on September 4.

The destructive mudslides and floods affected villages in Nepal, as well as the Chinese region of Tibet, on August 26, forcing thousands to evacuate their homes. Search operations have concentrated on Rasuwa and regions surrounding the Trishuli River, utilizing advanced equipment such as drones, aerial surveys, and three-dimensional mapping to locate missing persons.

The UAE has supplied emergency aid to Nepal, including rescue boats, drones, power equipment, and logistical resources, with the fifth shipment recently delivered to bolster rescue efforts. Hammoud Al Afari, director of UAE Relief Operations, emphasized that the team continues to collaborate closely with Nepalese authorities, adhering to field priorities and available information.

Al Afari also highlighted that essential supplies are being provided to Nepalese rescue teams to enhance their capacity to continue search operations and reach affected areas. The UAE's disaster response approach reflects its commitment to providing timely humanitarian relief and technical assistance during emergencies.

As of the latest report, the flood has claimed at least 1,385 lives in Nepal, while an additional 5,130 people remain missing. A total of 13,600 individuals have been rescued so far. The UAE team comprises members from the UAE Joint Operations Command, Dubai Police's Search and Rescue, and the UAE Aid Agency, as well as specialists in disaster relief, medical evacuation, and first aid.
