What was intended as a moment of emotional closure for actress Jacquelin Chng has instead sparked a public disagreement within her famous Chng family. The incident unfolded when the Hong Kong-based star participated in TVB's variety show, The Battle of Mediums. During the performance, a psychic medium claimed to receive messages from Jacquelin's deceased mother, Datin Kong Yuk Chu.

Jacquelin then tested the psychic by inquiring about a specific present from her mother received in 2002; the medium astonishingly identified a bluish-purple car that the actress had purchased to deter her from moving out.

Following the show, Jacquelin was visibly moved as the medium recited her late mother's physical maladies, apologies, and a sincere message: "Mom actually loves you very much." However, her reaction didn't sit well with her younger sister, Mona Chng, who criticized the segment on social media. Mona dismissed the entire episode, stating, "Since it is labelled an entertainment show, just watch it for entertainment and don't take it too seriously.

After all, not a single thing in it is true." The elder sister argued that Jacquelin, who had spent less time with her mother during her lifetime, should not be articulating the sentiments of someone who had devotedly cared for her. Mona urged the family to respect privacy, noting that "family matters belong at home."

The controversy arose only a few days after Jacquelin faced digital backlash for sharing photos from her mother's funeral in Malaysia. Defending her actions, Jacquelin explained that she was merely filming a family memorial on a private account. She emphasized that her mother's final wish was for her siblings to support each other.
