Russia Ramping Up Ballistic Missile Production: Zelenskyy Says Ukraine Wants to Receive 100-120 Patriot Missiles Monthly

Russia is currently producing around 140 ballistic missiles per month. To counteract this threat, Ukraine would require approximately 280 interceptor missiles. However, obtaining that many on a monthly basis is highly unlikely. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement during an interview with DW on September 12.

According to NATO guidelines, a ratio of one interceptor missile for every two incoming ballistic missiles is needed to effectively shoot them down. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is seeking to acquire 100-120 interceptors, particularly for the challenging winter months. These interceptors could come from US stockpiles or through direct production.

While the US shows political willingness to assist, the production capacity is currently limited, making existing stockpiles the most viable option. Ukraine is also engaging in negotiations with Middle Eastern countries and European states to secure interceptor missiles. Additionally, Zelenskyy mentioned that Russia had canceled a test launch of its newest hypersonic missile, the Avangard, originally scheduled for early September.
