PRP rejects allegations linking Bauchi governorship candidate to banditry

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has firmly rejected allegations linking its Bauchi State governorship candidate, Senator Shehu Buba, to banditry and kidnapping activities. In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, the party described the claims as "tissues of lies and unrestrained mischief."

The PRP had initially chosen not to comment on the allegations, aiming to avoid giving them undue attention. However, they now believe that the accusations are part of a deliberate effort to damage the senator's image due to his popularity and the likelihood of him winning the 2027 Bauchi governorship election. The party has challenged anyone with evidence of criminal activities involving Senator Buba to present it to the appropriate authorities for investigation and prosecution, as per Section 127(c) of the Electoral Act 2026.

This provision makes the publication of false statements about a candidate's character or conduct, intended to harm their chances of election, punishable by a fine of up to N200,000 or six months in prison. The PRP remains confident in the candidate, describing him as someone who has "stepped up when needed" in efforts to combat criminality in the country.

They believe that his political rivals and detractors are responsible for the allegations, as they feel threatened by the candidate's growing popularity. The party encouraged those opposing Senator Buba to compete with him politically rather than resort to "calumny" and libelous allegations.
