PN to meet next week to appoint new state chiefs

Perikatan Nasional (PN) plans to convene its Supreme Council next week to appoint new state chiefs, according to the coalition's information chief Annuar Musa. In a Facebook post, Annuar emphasized that PN is prioritizing the strengthening of its management and administration, adhering to the coalition's constitution and rules.

PAS, a constituent party of PN, concluded its political partnership with Bersatu in June, following disagreements on various issues. These disputes included Bersatu's stance on its role within the coalition, concerns over alleged interference in state appointments, and opposition to admitting new Malay-Muslim political parties into PN. Following PAS's decision, PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan announced a Supreme Council meeting, set to take place after PAS's muktamar.

Moreover, Annuar highlighted that the PN Supreme Council will deliberate on preparations for the upcoming Melaka state election. The present government in Melaka will lapse at the end of December, and a fresh state election must be held within 60 days. Both the opposition alliance Pakatan Harapan and PN are aiming to form alliances with Barisan Nasional, which currently commands 20 of the 28 state seats in Malaysia.

Both PH and BN have had a federal-level alliance, but their relationship soured after BN joined forces with PN during the Negeri Sembilan election, leading to a two-thirds majority victory for the alliance.
